Opened in 1912, Bar lazy J is considered the oldest continuously operating guest ranch in Colorado. Our historic ranch is ideally located just southwest of Rocky Mountain National Park and nestled in a peaceful valley along the banks of the Colorado River. With a guest capacity of 42 we offer our guests a friendly, informal atmosphere and a true “western experience.” Our excellent horses will carry you through beautiful Rocky Mountain terrain–everything from river valleys to mountain tops. We pride ourselves in helping new riders become comfortable in the saddle and seasoned riders will love our all day and adventure rides. This family-owned ranch also offers an immersive fly-fishing experience on private stretches of the Colorado River, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Bar Lazy J Ranch beckons fly-fishing enthusiasts to a hidden gem where the art of angling meets the charm of the Western wilderness. With seasoned staff, incredible horses, well-appointed accommodations, and a commitment to preserving the natural environment, the ranch creates an ideal setting for both novice and seasoned riders and anglers seeking an authentic Western retreat.

Lodging Overview

We have 12 cozy, comfortable guest log cabins clustered along the Colorado River. Also available is our 3 bedroom Ranch House. All cabins have screened porches. Cabins and the Ranch House are cleaned and the beds made daily. There is a laundry room available for guests to use at no charge.

Recreation Overview

While the ranch features horseback riding and "GOLD MEDAL" fishing, we offer a variety of other non-riding activities to choose from including our 1500 foot COLORADO RIVER ZIP LINE. Mountain Biking, guided hiking, White water rafting, trap shooting, sight seeing van trips and nearby golf are all available. You can also choose to lounge in our 20X40 heated swimming pool, soak in our jacuzzi, grab a book from our library, or sit and relax in the main lodge. The recreation barn is always open for a game of air hockey, ping pong, shuffleboard or foosball.

Dining Overview

For most meals everyone gathers in the historic lodge where we serve good old American home style cooking. Lunches are served in our river porch overlooking the Colorado River. At 7500 feet elevation the mountain air and outdoor life provide a terrific appetite booster - so we serve em' up in cowboy sized portions. Our entrees are accompanied with delights such as homemade breads, pastries and desserts. Since our own family is split between meat and non-meat eaters, we recognize and appreciate guests' variance in appetites. There are always options available.
